Frequently Asked Questions About In-Home Senior Care
Straight answers about licensing, caregiver screening, scheduling, costs and how care begins. If you don’t see your question, call us any time — our phone line is open 24/7, and our office is open Monday to Sunday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
What is non-medical in-home care, and how is it different from home health?
Non-medical home care helps with everyday living: bathing, dressing, meals, medication reminders, housekeeping, transportation and companionship. Home health is skilled medical care (nursing, therapy) ordered by a physician and typically covered by Medicare for a limited time. Caring Hearts is a California state-licensed Home Care Organization providing non-medical care, and we often work alongside home health and hospice teams.
Is Caring Hearts licensed, bonded and insured?
Yes. Caring Hearts Premier Home Care is licensed by the State of California as a Home Care Organization. Our caregivers are insured and bonded, fingerprinted, background-checked and registered on the California Home Care Aide Registry.
How do you choose and screen your caregivers?
Every caregiver completes a multi-step screening: identity and reference verification, fingerprint-based criminal background check, Home Care Aide Registry clearance, TB test, structured behavioral interview and skills evaluation. Many of our caregivers also train in our affiliated Palm Desert residential care home, so they arrive with hands-on experience in elder care, hygiene care, meal preparation, dementia care and medication reminders.
Which areas do you serve?
Our home base is Palm Desert and we serve the entire Coachella Valley, including Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, Cathedral City, Indian Wells, La Quinta and Indio. We also provide care in Orange County (Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Laguna Beach, Mission Viejo and surrounding cities) and Los Angeles County.
How quickly can care start?
In many cases we can begin within 24 to 48 hours of your free assessment, and we can often accommodate same-week starts for urgent situations such as a hospital discharge. Call us at (760) 444-0516 and we will do everything we can to help right away.
Can I meet the caregiver before care begins?
Absolutely. We match caregivers based on your loved one's personality, needs and schedule, and we introduce them in person before the first shift. If it is not the right fit for any reason, we will find someone who is.
Do you offer 24-hour, overnight or live-in care?
Yes. We provide hourly care, overnight shifts, 24-hour care with rotating caregivers, and live-in arrangements. Care is available 365 days a year.
Do you provide dementia and Alzheimer's care?
Yes. Our caregivers are trained in memory care, including wandering prevention, redirection techniques, safe routines and meaningful engagement. Supervision and companionship for clients with memory concerns is one of our most requested services.
How much does home care cost, and how do families pay?
Rates depend on the level of care and the schedule. We explain our rates clearly during your free consultation, with no hidden fees. Most families pay privately, and we are happy to help you understand how long-term care insurance benefits may apply. Call us for a current rate sheet.
Is there a long-term contract?
No. Care plans are flexible and can be adjusted, paused or ended as your family's needs change. We simply ask for reasonable notice for schedule changes.
What happens if our regular caregiver is sick or on vacation?
Because we are an agency, coverage is our responsibility, not yours. Our coordinators arrange a qualified backup caregiver who is briefed on the care plan so your loved one's routine continues without interruption.
Who supervises the care?
Every client has a care coordinator who builds the care plan, checks in regularly, supervises caregivers and keeps family updated on changes in physical, mental or social status. Our office is open Monday through Sunday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and our phone line is open 24/7 so no one waits for help.
Can you help my parent who lives in California while I live out of state?
Yes, many of our families live far away. We become your eyes and ears at home: making sure medications are taken on time, meals are prepared, appointments are kept, and you receive regular updates you can trust.
Do you work with hospice or home health agencies?
Yes. We frequently provide non-medical support to hospice patients and coordinate with visiting nurses, therapists and physicians so that the whole care team is working from the same plan.
